7 is the Magic Craps Number
Everything in craps revolves around a single number. That number is 7. There is a very good reason for this. There are more ways to make the number 7 with a pair of dice than any other number:
- 1-6
- 2-5
- 3-4
- 4-3
- 5-2
- 6-1
Remember, each die is considered its own instrument. That’s why 1-6 and 6-1 are two entirely different rolls in craps even though they add up to the same number.
So, what does that mean for the craps player? It means that statistically you will roll a 7 more often than any other number. Always expect the 7 to show. Sometimes a 7 is good, and sometimes it is bad. It all depends on when the 7 appears.
The Dice Are Not Your Friend
The above information should be enough to tell you that the dice are not your friend. It is the likelihood of a 7 being rolled that gives the house its edge. However, you can minimize that edge when you stick to basic craps betting.
Craps is actually the best table game in the casino for the smart player with the exception of blackjack. However, some people can still manage to lose a lot of money at craps because they make the wrong type of craps bets.
Just know this. The longer you roll the dice, the greater the chances are you will lose. The 7 will come sooner or later. You can also get some crape die on amazon to practice.
Everyone Gets a Chance to Shoot the Dice
In craps everyone gets a chance to roll the dice. In a live casino this means physically rolling the dice on an actual table. Live craps players take turns as the shooter. When you play the game of craps online you will always be the shooter. You can also control the game by choosing when to roll.
While it may seem cool to be the shooter, many craps players will tell you that they have made far more money when they were betting on another shooter in a live craps game.
Line Bet – The Basic Craps Wager
In craps there are perhaps a hundred individual bets available to the player. That probably sounds exciting, and it can be. It can also be expensive. On any roll of the dice in craps the player can have multiple bets working. It can be confusing.
What you need to know to learn craps in less than four minutes is that everything is anchored around the line bet. The line bet is what allows you in the game. You have to have a line bet in play before you can make any of the other wagers that are offered.
A line bet is a simple bet for or against the shooter of the dice. The Pass line bet is a bet that the shooter will win. The Don’t Pass line bet is a bet that the shooter will crap out. The table minimum in a live casino can range from $5-$15 at small casinos to $50 or more at busy venues.
Here’s the most powerful tip we can share if you want to make the most of this four-minute craps lesson. The Don’t Pass line bet is almost always the best bet in craps. You should already know why. Remember, we told you there are more ways to make a 7 than any other number.
Exotic Bets in Craps
If you are new to craps, all those colorful spaces on the craps table must look like a candyland. They can be, if you know how and when to make your exotic bets. The subject of field bets, proposition bets, and hardways is well beyond learning craps in less than four minutes. Don’t be afraid to play these bets, but only do so when you have learned the game.
Online Craps is Much Slower Than Live Craps
We will conclude by saying that playing craps online is much slower than playing craps at a live casino. The table minimums at an online casino are also much lower.
