A British casino directory becomes unreliable as soon as a property closes, changes operator or alters its tables. This guide therefore explains how to verify a land-based casino in Great Britain using the Gambling Commission and local licensing authority—then how to check whether the venue actually offers the craps game and limits you want.
Who licenses a British casino?
The Gambling Commission issues operating licences for gambling businesses in Great Britain. A physical casino also needs a premises licence from its local licensing authority, normally the relevant council. Those are related checks, not interchangeable ones.
The Commission publishes a business register containing licensees, trading names, licensed activities and regulatory information. It also publishes a separate gambling-premises register searchable by name, town, city or postcode.

A five-step verification check
- Identify the legal operator. Do not rely only on the brand above the door. Find the business or account name shown in the official register.
- Check the licensed activity. Confirm that the business holds the relevant non-remote casino permission, not merely a remote or unrelated gambling licence.
- Find the premises. Search the premises register by address or postcode and note the local licensing authority.
- Check regulatory history. The public register provides access to regulatory actions and public statements. Read the substance and date rather than treating any old entry as a permanent verdict.
- Confirm directly with the venue. Ask whether craps is currently offered, whether it is live or electronic, the usual minimum, opening times, identification rules and any membership or dress requirements.
Why an active casino may not have craps
A casino licence does not promise every table game. Many British floors concentrate on roulette, blackjack, baccarat, poker or electronic products. Even a venue that owns a craps table may open it only when staffing and demand justify a full crew.

A physical venue and a gambling website can be operated under different permissions. Budget and safer-play checks
Travel and atmosphere do not change the house edge.
