There can be little question that craps is a game which excites the imagination of gamblers to an unusual degree. If you need any proof of this, just take a stroll into any major casino at your next possible opportunity and casually peruse the action unfolding at a wide number of games: poker, blackjack, keno, roulette, etc.
The ways in which the Internet has allowed novice gamblers to experiment with games that would intimidate them in a brick-and-mortar casino environment have radically reshaped the global gaming landscape. This truth is exemplified by the game of craps perhaps more than any other.
Money management in the game of craps is not as simply as money management is in other casino games like blackjack and roulette. This is because craps takes a lot more concentration and skill than many of the other casino games do. Therefore to manage your money in craps you will need to develop a system that incorporates sound budgeting skills as well as a little self deception.
Beat the Craps out of the Casinos is a masterpiece. I have read this book over and over again and I find it well written and very educating. It has something to offer for craps players at any level, from beginners to more experienced players. The author, Frank Scoblete, is a famous craps player who regularly writes in Win Magazine, a national gambling magazine.
At first when you look at a Craps table, it is a little overwhelming and if you do not know what you are doing, you may seem confused. It is helpful to have some understanding of the game prior to playing, but it is also quite helpful to go and watch others play the game.
Are you a devoted fan of craps? If so, there are probably a few aspects of your personality that can be easily dissected, even from a great distance. You are the sort of Dick or Jane who likes to live on the edge, thriving on risk and the possibility of total devastation. The razor’s edge is your comfort zone, which makes you a pretty exciting cat to be around. It also makes you deeply dangerous, which is why smarter and more grounded individuals will tend to avoid you like the plague.
Well, it’s no surprise that craps has so many avid fans around the globe. This game is just too much fun to ignore, especially for congenital risk-takers. But are you familiar with the vast range of variations which are available to a serious craps player? The list is long and impressive, to say the least. Let’s just take a look at some of the more established variations which you should try if you have not already.
Crapless Craps.
Sounds like a contradiction in terms, I know. It’s also known as Bastard Craps. This is a simplified version of craps which can be found in some casinos. In this version craps (2, 3 or 12) and the natural 11 on the Come out throw are taken to be point numbers. Thus, a throw of 7 on the Come out throw wins, any other number becomes the point and the shooter wins if he throws it again before throwing a 7.
High Point Craps
In this version of the game, an initial roll of 2 or 3 is ignored and the player must roll again until another total is made. A roll of 11 or 12 wins automatically. Any other total becomes the point and the player rolls again and must throw a total higher than the point to win. Payoffs are even money, which isn’t so bad. Remember that the house edge on this game is 2.35 percent.
Scarney Craps
This version of the game was the brainchild of noted gambling stud John Scarne. Some nerve this guy had, making up his own game. The Come and Don’t Come bets are eliminated from play and the house doesn’t make a percentage charge on correct bets. The game was designed to increase casinos profits in places like the Caribbean that don’t have the large amount of traffic enjoyed by the big Vegas casinos, so I’m told.
New York Craps
This version of the game offers a different table and layout. A New York craps table is known as a double-end-dealer. The main difference is that it doesn’t have a Come or Don’t Come betting space and Place bets are not allowed. Players must bet on the box numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. Two dealers work at either end of the table. The stickman stands at the middle of the table. Two boxmen sit opposite the stickman. A Lookout, or Ladderman, will sit on a stand raised above the table. Just like in the Big Apple.
A Few Easy Tips for Playing Better at Craps Learning how to play craps is not difficult. However, learning the pros and cons of each type of craps bet can be daunting, especially if you are new to casino table games. If you are a novice craps player and you are interested in learning a few tips that can make you a better craps player then please read on.
Know How to Play the Game The most basic tip that any gambler should learn is that they need to know how to play the game before they try to play it. This may sound elementary but many novice players approach a game table not knowing what bets can be made, how to request more chips, and how to win the game they are trying to play. You can avoid all of these problems by simply reading the instructions for the game a couple of times before you approach a craps table. If you are still unsure about how the game is played try sitting out a few games to see how the other players are betting, shooting, and interacting with each other and the dealer. Learn from their examples. If all else fails you can ask the dealer for help, however, their advice should be taken with a grain of salt as they will probably try to get you to make a bet that has a higher house advantage rate.
Stay Away From Casino Traps The first tip that professional gamblers can give to novice players is that you need to know where casino traps are set. Casino traps are bets that dealers try to push players into making because they carry a higher house advantage than other types of bets do. In the game of craps the trap bets are the proposition bets located in the center of the craps table. These craps bet carry a house advantage of up to 16 percent, an outrageous advantage that novice players may simply not be aware of.
Learn What Bets Are the Safest to Make The craps bets that are the best for players are the Pass the Line bets and the 6 and 8 bets. All of these bets have a small house advantage percentage of only 1.5 percent. This clearly gives a player a better chance at hitting a payday.
Pay Attention to Your Own Action Novice players may not be aware that they are responsible for collecting their winnings. After winning the dealer will add chips to your stack. They will not move your chips from the table. If you do not move your chips from the betting area before the next coming out roll your chips will be considered to be in play and you will not be able to touch them until you win again, or you lose everything.
If you are a Blackjack player and you would like to try another casino table game then you might want to consider the game of craps. Craps really isn’t like the game of blackjack in any way except that they are both games of chance, and that they are both casino table games. Beyond these superficial similarities the games each have their own personalities. If you would like to learn the game of craps you will have to start from square one.
How to Bet in Craps
The game of craps is very simple. You place a bet on the table and wait for the shooter to decide your fate. The first type of bet that you can make is the Pass the Line Bet. For this bet you will place your chips on the craps table in the box labeled “Pass Line”. This bet must be made before the shooter’s come out roll. To win this bet the shooter must roll a seven or eleven. If they roll a 2, 3, or 12 then you lose. If the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 then a point is awarded and your bet is pushed. To win the Pass the Line Bet the shooter will need to roll another point before rolling a 7. This type of bet pays even money.
Another type of bet that you can make at the craps table is a Come Bet. This type of bet is made by placing your chips on the box marked “Come” To win this bet the shooter needs to roll 7 or 11 on their come out roll. If they hit a 2, 3, or 12 on their come out roll you lose. However, if they roll any of the remaining numbers you get a point. At this point the dealer will move your chips from the Come Bar to the Come Point that the dice landed on, a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 depending on the point roll. To win this bet now the shooter will need to roll this come point again before they roll a 7. This bet also pays even money.
There are several other craps bets that you can make, however, there really isn’t room here to discuss them all. For more information about craps bet you can visit any online casino that offers this type of casino game and check out their craps instruction page. Here you will find information about the following craps bets: Don’t Come Bets, Odds Bets, Pass Line Odds Bets, Don’t Pass Line Odds Bets, Come Odds Bets, Don’t Come Odds Bets, Field Bets, Big 6 and Big 8 Bets, Place Bets, Buy Bets, Lay Bets, Any 7 Bets, Any Craps Bets, Horn Bets, and Hardway Bets.
Craps is an amazingly exiting game, and if you are looking for a good time when visiting a casino, you should head for the craps table. You will find players cheering, screaming for a certain roll to come out as well as crying over lost money. Craps is a game of emotions and it is sometimes hard to stay absolutely focused when playing. However, if you wish to become a successful dice thrower that is what you have to do. Otherwise you might suffer great losses.
The greatest gambling mind of all time, Stu Ungar, had to experience that after his World Series of Poker win in 1981. But before we get to that, let me tell you a little about this, in many ways, brilliant mind.
Stu “the Kid” Ungar was born in New York in 1953. He early started fancying all types of gambling since his father worked as a bookmaker. He started playing scrabble and monopoly with his sister, threw dice in the backstreets, sneaked in to the horse tracks, and virtually did anything to get a chance to place a bet. He didn’t care much for school even though he was a good student. He got his education from gamblers, hustlers and card sharks and he soon became one the best at finding an angle.
As a card player he was almost unbeatable. His aggressive No limit Hold’em games won him three main event bracelets in the World Series of Poker, and no one could beat him in his best game; Gin Rummy. He also had a great a memory and memorizing several decks in a blackjack shoe was not a problem. Stu Ungar managed to win back to back WSOP main events in 1980 and 1981. In the last tournament he received a check worth $2 million. But Ungar was a gambler, he loved to take risks and have huge amounts on the line, therefore he went straight to the craps table. And as we all know, craps is a game based on streaks, and sometimes you just can’t win. Unfortunately Ungar suffered one of those days when he had 2 million dollars in his pocket. He lost, kept raising the stakes to win back the lost money, lost again, and raised the stakes again. Suddenly he was broke, and his WSOP win was sitting in the casino’s bank vault.
There has never been a doubt in my mind that the new law Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (H.R. 4411) would keep Americans away from Internet gambling. The online gambling business is generating too much money to be pushed aside. There are strong forces in the online gambling industry that is trying to make it possible for Americans to deposit and withdraw money from their favorite casino rooms… and I think they will succeed.
NBC has published a very good article about this subject. It gives hope to those Americans who think that they can never play on the internet again. It is very unlikely that the new law will have any impact in the long run.
Remember: It is not illegal to play on the internet. Just choose a casino and poker room that still allows American players and you can carry on playing as before.
The year was 2004 and the location was a dark alley. Dice throwers from all over America, and even a dice expert from the Far East, were gathered to fight about the most prestigious title of them all: World Champion of Dice.
For the first time in history the world’s best dice controllers were about to test their skills against each other. Who are they you might ask? Frank Scoblete, The Dominator? Nah, you imbeciles! I’m talking about the best back-alley-throwers the world has ever seen; Phyuck Yiu, Leonard Washington and Ashy Larry.
When it comes to throwing dice on cardboard boxes, nobody beats these guys. CrapsPit has now found some rare footage from that night in 2004. Watch and learn…
I learned about the game of Craps on my very first visit to Las Vegas. Well, I thought I learned how to play, but what I really learned was the excitement involved in it.
Craps is a game that is better played at night, when there are a bunch of people playing at one table. I had been watching this guy roll the dice over and over again. People yelling and giving high fives, this was extremely exciting. I stepped closer to get a better view. Before I knew it, I had money on the table and don’t even remember coming into the game. I started putting money down after the guy in front of me. He had a ton of money so I thought what the hell; he seems to be doing something right.
It was my time to roll; I throw the dice and hit eight. The guy next to me told me to do it again; he moved his money to hard way eight. I rolled the dice again, but mind you - I had no idea what I was doing. There were so many people standing around, it was hard to even see what was going on. I rolled the dice hard eight and everyone started to yell. At first I thought I did something wrong. The dealer pushed the dice to me again, so I picked up the dice and threw again. Hard eight! Everyone was giving high fives and shouting. It was a huge rush. I get excited all over again just telling the story!
The old guy standing next to me told me, “If you keep doing that, I will give you a $25 dollar chip for every roll you win me money.” I pick up the dice again. SIX! I thought to myself – well, I just below that one. But the dealer pushed the dice back to me. The old guy said what are you going to hit, I said ah six! He moved his money to six. I rolled and the dealer said SIX! Okay - so you if have ever played Craps, I am sure you know the excitement of the table when everyone is winning, it was just like that. And, if you have not played – you need to check it out. It is an incredible feeling.
I keep rolling the dice and rolling the dice and hitting the numbers. I looked down and I had well over a hundred dollars in chips next to me. I thought I should do this for a living!
On my next roll, an older lady stood to my right, dressed in a white floor length evening gown with pearls around her neck. Keep in mind, now - I was at the Bellagio and I am in shorts and a t-shirt. Before long, I had this lady jumping up and giving me high fives like she was 21 years old. It was awesome!
Well, I finally crapped out, but I had a good run. I walked up to the Craps table with $40 and walked away with $300. How can this be my greatest craps story you might wonder. Well, Craps is a game of chance; you win some, you lose some. My point to the story is I walked up to the table not knowing anything more than you roll dice. And, I still had the most fun standing there watching these people, strangers even, laugh and cheer together until they were hoarse. No matter if they lost or not, they still stayed to play. It is a high energy game (not always a winning game). The best time I have ever had in Vegas was that night at the Craps table.
I always tip the dealers, especially if I have a winning session. I don’t think that it affects the game in any way, but is nice to give the dealers a little addition to their low wages. When I tip, I just throw a chip on the felt and say “for the dealer”. The dealers have a tough job and they often have to deal with a noisy crowd of gamblers. I like to show that I appreciate their terrific work.
Some players like to put a bet for the dealers instead of giving just a chip, and they usually put it in the middle section of the table. Most players know that the bets in that area are a sucker bets with a big house edge. If you tip with a bet you will just give the house an advantage on that money, and why would you want that. The dealers are of course familiar with the game and most of them know what a bad bet is. It is more appreciated to just hand over a chip. In the long run that is better for everybody.
When I surf the Internet and look on craps sites and message boards I see a renascence of the game. There are many interesting posts from young craps players that come in with new and fresh thoughts. I love to read those posts and I love that craps is alive and lives well.
Many of the theories, about how to win, are the same I have heard in the casino environment for decades. People that say that they have invented a waterproof betting system, or that they know how to control the dice to throw any number. I appreciate that players put an effort in trying to beat the game, or at least maximize the chances of winning, but some of the thoughts are a bit naive.
I really think that dice control is possible. I have seen the best dice controllers in action and one must admit that they have a special touch when the dice leave their hands. This is something that takes a lot of practice and a big bankroll. Players that want to make a career in dice controlling have to spend thousands of hours at the craps tables. They also need to have a wallet that can pay for this practice.
If you wish to become a winning craps player make sure you study and practice hard. It is not easy, but still, I know it is possible.
